Kelly Rosenhagen, of Simply {Gorgeous} Photography, is definitely a girl after my own heart. She is such a sweet lady and is the true definition of an entrepreneur. While she was searching for her own photographer to do a boudoir session, she realized that there was a need and decided to start her own business in order to fulfill that need. She has come a long way in a short period of time and I just adore her work. She has this way about her of making you feel, well Gorgeous. If you are looking for a great groom’s gift or just something that will make your significant other’s day, but most importantly your own day, I highly recommend this talented Photographer.

Who’s That Lady?

So, I’ve been in this major “make-over” vibe lately. When I started to transform my business into something that I really love, I had to really dig deep to figure out the age old question “who am I?” It was probably one of the most difficult processes in my life. I even asked Chris to tell me who I am. Who better to know you than your husband, right? Yea, that didn’t work. He just looked at me and went back to working on whatever his task was for that day. Darn… *side note: wouldn’t it be nice if the people in your life that you are the closest to could tell you who you are?”*

Anyways, I so just went off topic. I was in such a classy mood, that started to want to completely make-over everything. I started of thinking about what our place would like when we move : clean off-white walls with very little charcoal and tiffany blue accents… I can’t even explain my elation when I think about it. Continuing into my “make-over vibe” I started to look at more dresses whenever I went shopping. I always picture Joan Clever with her pearls and Audrey Hepburn with her clean-lined clothing when I think of classy. Would you believe I’m having a hard time finding what I’m looking for? Ha.

I have found a few random items that work really well together and when my girlfriend asked me to model for her in her wedding gown, I begged her to take some pictures of my in my little black dress. She did a great job. I LOVE THEM! AND… since I had a very small wedding myself, I didn’t have the big white dress (or in this case, Champaign) or the beautiful bridal portraits (hence why I believe so highly in making sure you plan your day to include as many portraits with groom as possible), I was more than happy to model in her gorgeous dress.

A New ME

South Bend Wedding Photography | A New Brand

I can already hear the questions now… “What was wrong with Guided Light Photography?”, “Why did you change it to Katie Whitcomb Photographers and not Photography?”, and even “Is Chris not photographing anymore?” I will answer your questions, one at a time. You know, press conference style. Okay, maybe not, but I will tell you why I felt the need to change the name and the brand.

First of all, I was never really confidant with the name of Guided Light Photography. It irritated me from one end of the earth to the other when someone would say “It reminds me of the soap opera” or if they would simple call us “Guiding Light Photography.” I may be a little dramatic (I am girl after all), but when it comes to my business, I don’t like the drama. I really wanted something that I was going to feel confidant with that was perfect for who I am as a person. I began the journey of digging deep within myself around Christmas time and we played around with names. We decided that making it Chris and Katie Whitcomb was just asking for a law suit, from Calvin Klein. I mean, the logo would have to be CK. We decided to leave Chris’ name out of it, plus I wanted something very feminine, clean and let’s face it, he’s known as “the man without a face” to most of our brides (until the wedding day). And thus, Katie Whitcomb Photographers was born.

The process was really grueling and at times I wanted to give up and just stick with Guided Light Photography. We had talked about changing the name in late 2008, early 2009 but decided that we didn’t want to worry about the craziness of the change. I can’t even describe the fear that I had going into this change. What about the SEO that I’ve (this should read Chris worked his butt off but I’ll let it slide-cw) been working my tail off to get us up there in rankings? What about the contracts that we currently have for the 2010 wedding season? What will I have to do to keep the IRS happy? I decided to SUCK IT UP and just go for it. Once we started, I fell more and more in love with it that I honestly expected.

The idea behind Katie Whitcomb Photographers is very clean, simple, timeless and yet is still somewhat “designer”. If there is one thing that I always have at the fore-front of my mind when I’m photographing is “will my client like her wedding images 10 years from now?” I believe that the branding for Katie Whitcomb Photographers really portrays this “timeless” feel.

This launch was highly anticipated and I am so pleased to finally have it complete. I am confidant that the research that went into the new brand will shine through in the upcoming wedding season and you can expect big things from Katie Whitcomb Photographers.

Elkhart, Indiana Charity Photography | Pageants by Ashley

When Ashley of Pageants by Ashley told me she was hosting a fund raiser for the March of Dimes I was more than elated to help out. I came up with the idea of using my photographic ability to do portraits to raise money through print orders of the girls dressed in their sashes and crowns. The girls had a lot of fun getting dressed up and they looked absolutely immaculate.

While the girls were eating, I decided to take the dresses and grabbed a few detail shots of these gorgeous creations, which can all be found at Ashley Rene’s. I was very humbled when I found out that one of the designers, Johnathan Kayne,  was on the 3rd season of my favorite show, Project Runway.  All of these dresses were just simply gorgeous and fabulous in their own right.
