Adam and I met about 8 years ago while working at a movie theatre. I was friends with his sister and we just started hanging out. Gradually, our friendship grew into more.
We just bought our new house and on Christmas morning he gave me one of my gifts wrapped up to open in the dining room. It was so emotional and perfect.
I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn and I wanted my wedding to emulate a vintage romantic feel. I felt the roses and candles on the tables really captured that.
We chose to get married in my childhood church at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for the sentiment behind it. The Avalon Manor was gorgeous with their chandeliers and it was important that we find something that we easily accessible for our guests.
Katie Whitcomb | Photographers was referred to us by one of my co-workers, Nicole, and I was so happy with that referral. Katie, too, loves Audrey Hepburn and instantly knew exactly what I wanted for my wedding day. I loved the classic spin she has on photojournalism.
One of maid of honors owns Albanese Confectionary so I wanted her to do a candy bar for me. She surprised me with many different choices for my guests. The Avalon Manor has amazing choices for food but as soon as we tastes the greens beans, potatoes, and beef we knew we had to choose it.
I really felt like roses captured the romantic feel I was going for and I wanted the to be clean. We put them on the cake too.
I wanted something with 4 tiers and a classic look. Adding the roses tied in the rest of the day and added a touch of class.
By far, my favorite moment was the First Look. It was amazing. As soon as I saw him, I felt so much better and I could relax. I am so glad that Katie talked me into it.
I would highly recommend taking a few moments with just your new hubby to soak in the fact that you’re finally married. You put all this time into your wedding and you really need to share in a moment (or two) to let it set in.

Before you start asking, NO I’m NOT pregnant. I’d love to be pregnant maybe one day down the road, if God so chooses to bless us with another, but Bryce and Josie are my priority right now.
With that said, most of you know that my son is a Special Needs child and has a lot of special attention that I’ve had a difficult time adjusting with. I feel like every time I try to take time away from the business to work with Bryce (even if it’s an hour), my business will go under. I am a complete control freak/workaholic and it’s hard for me to want to break away from providing for my family. I have had to really evaluate our work situation and Bryce’s therapy based on him only having 4 months left until he will no longer be receiving therapy through 1st Steps. It was a very hard decision for me, but I think having a wedding every weekend until September is a great reason to cut back a little.
So, what will we be cutting back? If you have already scheduled a portrait session, you are in luck because that is all that I’ll be photographing other than weddings from June 1st until August 31st. I feel that will give me all the time that I need to work with Bryce to get him one step closer to where he should or really needs to be. He’s no where near ready to be potty trained, he says some words but then never again, and we’re not really sure how much he actually understands. I have put my business ahead of my family and their needs and it’s time to re-evaluate my priorities.
A really great friend of mine, Christi Nelson, first put the idea into my head because she’s taking 2011 off to focus on her family. Although I respect Christi’s decision, the idea of taking a year off is crazy for our family. I know that I can rest easy in taking a few months away from additional work that would not only overload Chris, but become a crazy amount of stress for me.
Don’t get too sad too quickly. I have a couple tricks up my sleeve when I start back up in September so you’ll just have to wait to see what they are.
Until then, I am going to submerge into wedding season focused on weddings, but most importantly, my family.
